BWA General Council Resolution 2000.
The General Council of the Baptist World Alliance meeting in Havana July 5-8, 2000
AFFIRMS the role of theological education as essential for the development of pastors and church leaders who will bring servant leadership to the task of developing growing and vital churches to carry out the mission of the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
COMMENDS the diligent work of our Baptist-related theological institutions equipping leaders in our rapidly changing world;
LAMENTS the reality that the cost of theological education is becoming prohibitive for many leaders, especially those in the two thirds world; and,
NOTES with interest the positive potential of advanced technology such as mass media information systems, long distance learning, internet access to vast resources, which has opened new models for sharing knowledge.
RECOGNISES the need to develop a system of
• listing theological resources to be loaned or given as well as volunteers for teaching and other tasks, from constituent BWA bodies and their educational institutions to other member bodies;
• publishing the theological resources and needs of constituent bodies as a means for the Holy Spirit to connect needs with resources within the BWA family; and,
• developing such systems to the end that God’s mission can more effectively and efficiently be advanced, resulting in heightened education of pastors,’ stronger local churches, and deepened partnership among our constituent bodies.
