BWA General Council Resolution 1997.2

The General Council of the Baptist World Alliance, meeting in Vancouver Canada, July 3-9, 1997,

EXPRESSES concern that the Middle East peace process has only partially been implemented and that this threatens the stability of all the states in the region;

ENCOURAGES member unions and conventions to take all steps possible to urge their governments to strengthen the hand of the United Nations in its efforts to counteract aggression within the area and to ensure the full implementation of the March 1993 peace accords;

PLEADS with the authorities in the region not to take provocative actions which threaten peace, but rather to seek to reconcile competing and conflicting interests and

CALLS upon member unions and conventions of the Baptist World Alliance and their member churches to pray and work earnestly for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
